Square Enix pulls the broken iOS version of The World Ends With You

The World Ends With You: Solo Remix, the mobile version of Square Enix's urban fantasy role-playing game, has been busted on iPad and iPhone since the release of iOS 8 last September. After some back and forth from Square Enix about a possible fix and no resolution in sight, the publisher says it has decided to pull the game from the iTunes App Store.

In a support notice, Square Enix said service for The World Ends With You: Solo Remix has been suspended and that it's working to update the game. The iOS port is no longer available for purchase from iTunes, and can't be re-downloaded even if you bought it.

Prior to pulling the game, Square Enix posted a warning on its iTunes listing, saying, "We have confirmed a bug that prevents this game from running properly on iOS 8, and are currently investigating the matter. We humbly ask for your patience and understanding until the issue is resolved."

Last Friday, the publisher said it was pulling the game. Square Enix explained the decision in a statement sent to Polygon.

Upon examining the impact of recent iOS updates to the title, we determined that the affected areas were greater than originally assumed.

We were working to address this matter, however, the title has been regrettably pulled from the Store.

Square Enix is actively working with all related parties to make available the software update; however at this time, we are unable to communicate a clear and adequate timeline. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to determine a solution.

The World Ends With You: Solo Remix, based on the Nintendo DS game, was released for iOS in 2012. An Android version, released last year, is still available for purchase through the Google Play Store for $17.99.
