Team effort obliterates Halo speedrun world record

A group effort took down the world record for a speed run at Halo: Combat Evolved on Legendary difficulty, beating the old mark by almost 23 minutes.

This is a segmented run — which means rather than a single person doing a straight playthrough, its several runners all tackling their assignments and then stitching the effort together to arrive at the 1:07:04 final time — obliterating the old mark of 1:29:59.

It also means the runners can retry their segments to achieve the absolute fastest time possible for them without affecting other portions of the game or starting it over in its entirety.

The team members are four of Halo's fastest players worldwide — Scurty, Sol, Vetro and Whistle. They had been working on beating the mark for about a year, Kotaku reports.

For those curious, this page lists the records for all the other speedruns in the Halo franchise, all of them solo efforts.
