Pokémon dev Game Freak is making a side-scroller about a commando elephant for Sega

Game Freak, the developer behind the core Pokémon games, is making a new 2D side-scroller called Tembo the Badass Elephant, publisher Sega announced today, and its coming to consoles and PC this summer.

Players control the eponymous elephant as he jumps, smashes, swings and butt stomps through an enemy force called Phantom, which has invaded Shell City. Tembo is called in to aid the National Army in its struggle against Phantom, unleashing approximately seven and a half tons of destruction.

Sega says Tembo the Badass Elephant features 17 levels of 2D side-scrolling adventure and "unique comic book style art." The game will be released on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One sometime during summer 2015.

Game Freak is best known for its work on Pokémon games, from the original Pokémon Red and Green to the most recent remakes, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. But the company has flirted with side-scrolling platformers, including Pulseman for the Sega Mega Drive, Drill Dozer for Game Boy Advance and HarmoKnight for Nintendo 3DS.
