Sony is opening up online play on the PlayStation Network to all PlayStation 4 users this weekend, regardless of whether they pay for a PlayStation Plus subscription, the company announced today.

The free weekend will last for just under 72 hours, from 12:01 a.m. PT on Friday, March 20, through 11:59 p.m. PT on Sunday, March 22. Online multiplayer gaming for all PS4 owners will be free during that period. A PlayStation Plus membership, which costs $49.99 per year, is ordinarily required to play online on PS4.

This will be the second time Sony has offered a free weekend for PS4 players; the first came last September.

Sony's promotion comes just in time for Visceral Games' Battlefield Hardline, which launches tomorrow, March 17. For more on that game's multiplayer component, check out the Overview video below.
