Bryan Singer announced the addition of actress Lana Condor to the cast of 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse on his Twitter and Instagram today, tagging the posts #Jubilee and #JubilationLee to do away with any confusion: Condor will be playing the Chinese American mutant with the power to create bursts of light.
In recent X-Men history, Jubilee lost her powers as a result of Scarlet Witch's altering of reality on M-Day, subsequently became a vampire and then adopted a baby because comics are weird. But one facet of the character that has remained consistent in comics is her surrogate father/daughter relationship with the X-Men's biggest hard-ass, Wolverine. In fact, for a film franchise that's so often revolved around the adventures of Wolverine, it's odd that X-Men films have so far only featured Jubilee in brief cameos or deleted scenes.
At present there's no way of knowing the extent of Condor's role in Apocalypse will be, but here's hoping, for Jubilee fans, at least, that it'll be significant.
