Arnold Schwarzenegger is starring in an upcoming film called Maggie, and it looks like something interesting for both him and the genre; a zombie film that seems ready to deal with the humanity of the characters.
If nothing else, it looks like a big-screen adaptation of The Last of Us in many ways. This smaller scope is something they're playing up heavily in the marketing.
"I'm really proud of my new film, Maggie. This is the most human zombie film you’ve ever seen, and it’s the most human role you’ve ever seen me take on," Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote on Facebook. "My co-star, Abigail Breslin, is absolutely incredible in the title role, and our director, Henry Hobson, made a beautiful film.
"Maggie is a totally different film — for me and for the genre. You're going to love it," he said in another post.
The film launches on May 8 both in the theaters and on-demand services, which is a bold move for a Schwarzenegger film, but it's great news for those of us who can't often get to the theaters. We'll have some thoughts ready when the film launches.
Update: The connection isn't just a coincidence, it seems. Henry Hobson, the director of Maggie, designed and directed the title sequence of The Last of Us. Thanks to Art of the Title Senior Editor Will Perkins for the note!
