This is our first look at the costumer Melissa Benoist will bring to television as Supergirl. The pilot episode is now in production for CBS.
"The costume for Supergirl was designed by three-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, who also designed the costumes for The Flash and Arrow and whose motion picture credits include Academy Awards for her work on Alice in Wonderland, Memoirs of a Geisha and Chicago, as well as eight additional Oscar nominations for films such as Into the Woods, Snow White and the Huntsman, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Sleepy Hollow, among others," the official DC Comics site stated.
Those are the official details, but what do we think? It's certainly not designed just to show off Benoit's body, which is a nice ugprade from Supergirls of the past, but I've never been a fan of the darker, more textured look that seems to be such a trend in costumes from Spider-Man to Superman these days.
That being said, some of the best superhero content in years is coming from DC characters on television — if you're not watching The Flash you need to fix that — so overall we're hopeful. What do you think?
