New amiibo lineup includes Dr. Mario, Zero Suit Samus, Splatoon Inklings and more

Nintendo outlined more of its amiibo lineup for the rest of the year during its Nintendo Direct presentation today, showing off new figures and toys compatible with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, Splatoon and Yoshi's Woolly World.

The next batch of amiibo figurines are due May 29 and include Charizard, Pac-Man, Wario, Jigglypuff, Greninja, Robin, Lucina and Ness. Those Super Smash Bros. figures will be followed by Dark Pit and Palutena in July, and Zero Suit Samus, Ganondorf, Olimar, Dr. Mario and Bowser Jr. in September. The updated lineup can be seen on Nintendo's amiibo website.

It appears that at least one of those amiibo will be a retailer exclusive. GameStop confirmed today that EarthBound's Ness will be exclusive to its stores.

Three more amiibo will also hit on May 29, alongside the release of paint-based shooter Splatoon for Wii U. A trio of amiibo based on the Inkling boy, girl and squid will be released that day. They'll be available for purchase individually or as part of a Splatoon three-pack.

The Splatoon amiibo will unlock special missions in the Wii U game, Nintendo announced today, and by completing those missions, players will be able to acquire special weapons and gear that they can't get elsewhere.

Nintendo also unveiled two new styles of amiibo today: the yarn Yoshi amiibo for Yoshi's Woolly World and new card-based amiibo that will be compatible with Nintendo 3DS game Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer.

Nintendo also noted that amiibo collectors will get a little bit of relief in May, as the Marth amiibo, which is compatible with the recently released Code Name STEAM, will be restocked next month.
