Star Ocean 5 is in development for a Japanese launch on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, according to the latest issue of Famitsu (as translated by Kotaku). A full reveal is expected from Square Enix tomorrow at a teaser site (pictured) it set up a couple of days ago.
Famitsu says the game is officially titled Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness, and is being developed by Tri-Ace, the studio behind Star Ocean since its original launch on Super Nintendo in 1996.
Canonically, the events of Star Ocean 5 will take place between Star Ocean: The Second Story and Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, the second and third titles in the main series. It will be set on a planet named Fakelead, 6,000 light years from Earth, and Famitsu's preview promised a "seamless" real-time battle system.
There is no word yet on a release date, or whether Star Ocean 5 will get a contemporaneous western launch, or any at all. Kotaku has more from a translation of the Famitsu article.
The last release in the main Star Ocean series was Star Ocean: The Last Hope in 2009, which launched on PlayStation 3 worldwide but was also available on Xbox 360 in Japan.
