Sunset, the first-person adventure game from Belgian indie studio Tale of Tales, will be released May 21 on Linux, Mac and Windows PC, the company announced today.
Tale of Tales will sell the game for $19.99 in North America, £14.99 in the U.K. and €17.99 in Europe on its website through the Humble Store, with buyers receiving a DRM-free copy of the game on all three platforms as well as a Steam key. Pre-order customers can pick up the game at a 25 percent discount: $14.99 in North America, £9.99 in the U.K. and €12.99 in Europe.
Sunset began with a Kickstarter campaign last June that pulled in more than $67,000, about 270 percent of Tale of Tales' $25,000 goal. Interested parties will be able to play the game a few days ahead of release at the Kill Screen Arcade for the 2015 Two5six Festival, the gaming culture conference taking place May 15-17 in Brooklyn, New York.
Sunset casts the player as Angela Burnes, an African-American feminist activist who is visiting the fictional South American country of Anchuria in May 1972 when its government is overthrown by a military coup. The new regime prevents Burnes from returning home to the U.S., so she has to take a job as a housekeeper for the wealthy Gabriel Ortega in order to survive. While keeping Ortega's palatial apartment clean, Burnes may discover his role, and a role for herself, in the resistance movement against the New Republic of Anchuria.
