See Dota 2 played as a third-person shooter

For those who've imagined playing Dota 2 from something other than the game's standard overhead camera, this mod — "Action Dota" — turns it into a third-person shooter.

BMD Dota, the modder behind this, also gives it standard third-person action controls. This isn't an entirely new idea; others have experimented with third-person cameras in Dota 2 in the past, and BMD appears to have figured out some of its elements back in November.

Modders have also put third-person cameras in other MOBAs and RTSes, like League of Legends and StarCraft 2. There's also Smite, of course, which is a third-person MOBA that launched on PC in 2014 and was angling for an Xbox One beta sometime in the early part of this year; it's currently in alpha.

BMD Dota says this is only a "quick attempt at testing out some basic gameplay functionality," for the mod. Evidently more work is being done. "I think this gets the gist across," the modder says. There's no download link for Action Dota, or any other information, so enjoy what you see here.
