How does Pillars of Eternity stand up against the classics?

After a wildly successful Kickstarter in 2012, the team at Obsidian Entertainment has finally released Pillars of Eternity, a throwback to the good-old-days of role-playing games like Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment.

Published by Paradox just last week, there's already talk of a sequel. We've talked with the team extensively about the stats system and parties, so how does the game hold up in practice? Card-carrying dungeon master Charlie Hall is joined by Griffin McElroy for a Polygon Overview.

There are mild spoilers in this clip, but seeing as how Pillars sports an 80+ hour campaign we hope you can cut us a little slack for 10 minutes.
