Dota 2 pays tribute to Terry Pratchett

Dota 2's latest gameplay update features more than just info on the game's general tweaks and balances; it includes a subtle homage to recently deceased prolific fantasy author Sir Terry Pratchett. Not sure what you're looking for? Just check out the Octarine Core.

The Octarine Core, in Dota 2, is a "formed from Mystic Staff and Soul Booster" that provides a boost to the player's intelligence, mana, hit points and more. But as our friends over at The Verge pointed out, it's also an ode to Pratchett's first Discworld novel, The Color of Magic. It's referenced in the following quote from the book:

It was octarine, the colour of magic. It was alive and glowing and vibrant and it was the undisputed pigment of the imagination, because wherever it appeared it was a sign that mere matter was a servant of the powers of the magical mind. It was enchantment itself.

Pratchett, who passed away in March at age 66, was also honored with a tribute in Elite: Dangerous.
