This War of Mine adds scenario editor, new locations

Charlie Hall is Polygon’s tabletop editor. In 10-plus years as a journalist & photographer, he has covered simulation, strategy, and spacefaring games, as well as public policy.

This War of Mine, the game that portrays war from the civilian perspective, has launched a major update today, adding new locations as well as a scenario editor.

The game editor, which Polygon first learned about during our visit to the Warsaw-based studio in 2014, will allow players to create their own characters in the game. That includes picking a model from the game's catalog, but also integrating photographs from outside the game.

Coming to the base game are two new locations, a gas station and the Old Town, one of the city's "most cheerful places," now home to the burned out hulls of Russian-made tanks and rubble.

11 bit studios recently conducted a charity sale through Steam, where all of the proceeds benefitted War Child, a U.K.-based non-profit. Over 350 children fleeing civil war in Syria benefitted from the effort, receiving psycho-social support to help them with their trauma.
