This weekend saw the latest event in Capcom's Pro Tour for Street Fighter 4 except for one problem: the wrong version of Street Fighter 4 was used.
Specifically, it was the wrong version of Ultra Street Fighter 4 in use at the NorCal Regionals, reports The Daily Dot. By the time tournament organizers discovered version 1.00 instead of 1.04 was in use, four matches in the quarterfinal round already had been played.
Capcom staff, reports The Daily Dot, made the hard call of ordering those matches replayed. One of the original winners ended up a loser — Ryota "Kazunoko" Inoue lost to Du "Nuckledu" Dang in a sweep.
How did this happen? According to John Choi, a tournament organizer, the facility had also been used for another event (Super Smash Bros.). The proper version of Ultra Street Fighter 4 had been loaded onto a console that belonged to another player, who left and took the system home.
Choi replaced it with another system bearing Ultra Street Fighter 1.04, but at the end of the Smash Bros. event, someone put an Ultra Street Fighter 4 disc in the tray, causing that system to default to the original disc version instead of using the one from the hard drive.
As Inoue is from Japan, Choi has offered to pay his expenses to another Capcom Pro Tour event in California, says the Dot. Inoue ended up tied for seventh in the event.
