The Last of Us DLC Left Behind is coming as a standalone download May 12

Left Behind, the single-player downloadable content for The Last of Us, will be available as a standalone download on May 12, Naughty Dog community strategist Arne Meyer announced today on the PlayStation Blog.

Left Behind acts as a prequel to The Last of Us and follows Ellie and her friend Riley. The content will be available on both PlayStation 3 and PS4 for $9.99. Naughty Dog will also lower the cost of the PS3 DLC to the same price as well.

"While part of the story of Left Behind takes place during the main narrative arc of The Last of Us," Meyer wrote, "I think some of the best and most touching moments of any game in recent memory occur during the prequel segments, as we follow Ellie and Riley as they sneak out of boarding school to visit an abandoned mall, getting one final chance to enjoy their friendship before Riley leaves to join the Fireflies."

The standalone version of Left Behind also includes a two hour trial of the The Last of Us' Factions multiplayer mode, and allows buyers to upgrade to the full game if they choose.
