Castlevania successor Bloodstained hits $500K Kickstarter goal in under a day (update)

Update: The campaign has now reached over one million dollars, and stretch goals for cheat codes and local co-op have been added.

It seems like there was quite the appetite for a new, classical Castlevania game, or at least a "spiritual successor" to the franchise. Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi has raised over $500,000 on Kickstarter for Bloodstained in less than a day, easily surpassing the game's funding goal.

As of this writing the crowdfunding effort has raised $510,000 with 6,880 backers, for an average backing amount of $74 per backer.

We shadowed Koji Igarashi for a day as he prepared for the campaign and, while hopes were high that fans were ready for a new game, this is a pretty amazing outcome.

There are still 32 days to go in the campaign, and the next few stretch goals include upgrading the art book into hardcover, and adding a second playable character.
