Mobile games outfit Gree closes Vancouver studio

Japanese mobile games company Gree today announced the closure of its Vancouver development studio.

Gree operates mobile games such as Beyond the Dead, Modern War and Knights & Dragons. According to a blog post by COO Andrew Sheppard, the company is seeking to limit the number of games it releases.

"Effective immediately, Gree International is shutting down our office in Vancouver, Canada and discontinuing the development of all mobile games from that studio," he wrote. "We have decided to focus our talent on building new gameplay within our biggest franchises."

Polygon contacted a Gree representative to enquire how many jobs have been lost, and which projects have been cancelled. We'll update with any reply.
