Actors Bella Thorne, John Goodman, Paul Giamatti, Rosario Dawson and Sylvester Stallone are joining the cast of the upcoming film adaptation of Ratchet & Clank, Rainmaker Entertainment announced today.
Casting was first revealed by The Hollywood Reporter. The cast will join video game actors for Ratchet, Clank and Captain Qwark — James A. Taylor, David Kaye and Jim Ward, respectively — who are reprising their roles. Kevin Munroe (TMNT) is set to direct, with Jericca Cleland co-directing.
"The collaborative relationship between Rainmaker Entertainment, PlayStation, Insomniac Games and all of our partners has helped us to bring this massive game franchise to the big screen," said Rainmaker president and chief creative officer Michael Hefferon. "Our outstanding celebrity talent together with the original voices from the game really bring these characters to life, and we are confident that Ratchet & Clank will delight fans with its authenticity and charm, while families everywhere will find a new family-friendly buddy duo to love."
The movie will follow its titular heroes as they try to stop Chairman Drek from destroying the Solana Galaxy. Notably, Drek appeared as the main villain in the first Ratchet & Clank game released in 2002.
Ratchet & Clank was originally slated for release this year, though it's now scheduled for 2016. A companion game will also be available both as a physical copy and on PlayStation Network.
Correction: The film will be available in theaters, while a companion game will be released as well.
