The Simpsons star Harry Shearer, who over the years has voiced Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns, Principal Skinner, Kent Brockman and several more, is leaving the animated show. Shearer announced his departure via Twitter.
The actor tweeted the following referencing The Simpsons executive producer, James L. Brooks:
from James L. Brooks' lawyer: "show will go on, Harry will not be part of it, wish him the best.". (1/2)— Harry Shearer (@theharryshearer) May 14, 2015
This because I wanted what we've always had: the freedom to do other work. Of course, I wish him the very best. (2/2)— Harry Shearer (@theharryshearer) May 14, 2015
CNNMoney reports that Shearer's characters will not be killed off, but rather replaced with new voice actors. The Simpsons is expected to enter production soon for seasons 27 and 28 of the show.
Following the announcement, Shearer later tweeted, "Thanks, Simpsons fans, for your support."
