This week, Dark Horse Comics ships the limited edition boxed set of The World of the Witcher, CD Projekt Red's "essential" companion to The Witcher series, complete with clamshell case, an art print and a secret compartment containing several enamel pins. The $100 price tag seemed daunting even to our resident Witcher lore expert, Jake Lear.
But he still pre-ordered it.
- The World of the Witcher Limited Edition, a collector's item dense enough to use as a blunt weapon.
- The leather case is embossed with the sign of the School of the Wolf, where many enterprising young witchers learn to kill.
- These photos will give you a look at Dark Horse Comics' latest collaboration with CD Projekt Red.
- From the official description: "Dive deep into the world of monster hunters, as prominent characters from The Witcher take you on a guided tour of the fascinating dark-fantasy adventure."
- The standard edition of the book is for sale for the much cheaper price of $28, so this expensive limited edition may seem absurd to all but the most hardcore Witcher fans.
- Said to be an "absolute must-have," this book is filled with key art from The Witcher video games.
- The thoughtful, in-character intro text from Dandelion, a scandalous bard and good friend to Geralt of Rivia, reminds the reader why they paid $100 for this.
- The tome is filled with full-color concept and game art.
- The Witcher games have always pushed the envelope artistically, and this book shows off some of the concept work that drives that aesthetic.
- The layouts juxtapose concept art for the games with detailed descriptions and back stories of characters and locations.
- This may come as a complete surprise, but there's an entire chapter dedicated to the witchers.
- The world of The Witcher series is called "The Continent." Cool, right?
- Some people ride horses on The Continent.
- Many of the monster designs in The Witcher games are totally rad though...
- ...see?
- Detailed spreads show off the monster designs for The Witcher games, including this dragon from The Witcher 2.
- Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon, Ciri for short, is a key character in The Witcher novels and The Witcher 3.
- There's a sweet hidden compartment.
- Six enamel pins are included that represent Geralt's witcher medallion and the magical signs witchers can use in combat.
- Behind the book, there's a fabric coated folio...
- containing this sweet print.
- Here's an isolated shot of that same awesome (but depressingly colorless) print.
- Put this thing on your coffee table and it's only a matter of time before apes start to evolve around it.
- And a final shot of everything included.
