Late last week on The Late Show with David Letterman, Norm Macdonald donned a suit and a tie and returned to his stand-up comedy roots. His performance was as much about making the audience laugh as it was about saying thank you to someone Macdonald respects deeply.

As Letterman winds down his 33-year run on late night TV, he's invited many of his favorite, longtime guests. Last week, Macdonald's fellow 1990s-era Saturday Night Live alumnus, Adam Sandler, sang a touching tribute to the departing host.
