Sega pulls more than a dozen games from iTunes App Store, Google Play

New, 14 comments

Earlier this month, Sega warned customers that it was removing an unspecified number of mobile games from the iTunes App Store, Google Play and other mobile marketplaces. The games in question, Sega said, no longer met its standards for quality — though the publisher never specifically said which games were being pulled.

Now that the games have been removed from those mobile marketplaces, we know which titles are affected.

The following Android titles are no longer available from Google Play:

  • After Burner Climax
  • Jet Set Radio
  • Super Monkey Ball 2

The following iOS titles are no longer available from iTunes:

  • After Burner Climax
  • Altered Beast
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Golden Axe
  • Golden Axe 2
  • Golden Axe 3
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • Phantasy Star 2
  • Sega Columns Deluxe
  • Space Harrier 2
  • Streets of Rage 3
  • Super Monkey Ball
  • Super Monkey Ball 2
  • Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition
  • Virtua Fighter 2
  • Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown Guide

Sega said that some of those delisted titles may return "in an updated form." This isn't the first time Sega has pulled some of its mobile titles from online stores. Games like The House of the Dead: Overkill - The Lost Reels and Zaxxon Escape were removed from sale after they launched.
