Disney Infinity 3.0 brings Star Wars to the game

Surprising approximately no one — a German retailer already leaked images last week — Disney has announced the latest iteration of its toys to life game Disney Infinity featuring ... Star Wars!

Disney Infinity 3.0 brings familiar faces from the world of Star Wars to the platform, joining characters from Disney, Pixar and Marvel universes. While Disney studio Avalanche, which developed the first two releases of the game, will lead development on 3.0, it's being joined by some other studios handling work on specific playsets and mechanics.

Star Wars Disney Infinity figurines

The pack-in playsets include "Twilight of the Republic" which features prequel trilogy mainstays like Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda and Darth Maul. If the original trilogy is more your speed, you'll prefer "Rise Against the Empire," which features nostalgia triggers Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, Han Solo, Chewbacca and Darth Vader and locations like Tatooine, Hoth, and Endor. If you are, somehow, more of a new trilogy person, a Star Wars: The Force Awakens playset will be available "this winter."

Other play sets include one based on the upcoming Pixar film Inside Out, and a Marvel set featuring Hulkbuster Iron Man, Ultron and other Marvel pals from the just-released Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Confirmed Star Wars figurines include: Luke, Leia, Chewbacca, Han Solo, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Darth Maul, Anakin and Ahsoka. Disney says we can expect figurines of "Mickey and Minnie, Sam Flynn and Quorra from Tron: Legacy, Mulan and Olaf" and more.

Disney Infinity 3.0 comes to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Wii U, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this fall, in a Starter Pack priced at $64.99. The Starter Pack includes the prequel-themed "Twilight of the Republic" play set along with Anakin and Ahsoka figurines, with all other figurines and play sets sold separately.
