The Star Wars prequel trilogy had some — well, let's just say "issues" and move on — but few things could top the utter loathing many feel for goofy Gungan Jar Jar Binks. Even Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams had it out for Jar Jar, he recently told Vanity Fair.
"I have a thought about putting Jar Jar Binks' bones in the desert there," Abrams told the publication. "I'm serious! Only three people will notice, but they'll love it."
Jar Jar was inserted into Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace as intended comic relief, though most were not charmed by his wacky antics. Still, Abrams apparently reined in his desire to kill the franchise's most hated character.
"It's a constant struggle to make sure that none of these things are treated like either they're a museum piece and we're trying to honor them, or they're gratuitous and thrown in because, well, it's a Star Wars movie, so you've got to put these things in," Abrams said. "Everything has got to be essential to the characters in the film."
Letting us down, Abrams. Letting us down.
