Splatoon gets new map and NES-inspired weapon tonight for free

Splatoon players will be able to download a free weapon and free map tonight, Nintendo announced during a Nintendo Direct Micro presentation today.

Nintendo is adding the N-Zap '85, which is modeled after the NES Zapper light gun, to Splatoon's arsenal. The rapid-fire pistol isn't very powerful, but is efficient with its ink usage and can quickly charge up the Echolocator special weapon. It comes with Splat Bombs, too.

Also arriving today is Port Mackerel, a new map that takes place among shipping containers at a port. Both the N-Zap '85 and Port Mackerel will be available as free downloads at 7 p.m. PT today, alongside the release of Ranked Battle mode for Splatoon players who have ranked up to level 10.
