Injustice: Gods Among Us is the surprisingly compelling comic series based on NetherRealm and Warner Bros. Interactive's fighting game of the same name. In the game's setting — after the madman destroys Metropolis and tricks the Man of Steel into killing Lois Lane and heir unborn child — Superman murders the Joker and becomes dictator of Earth. All out war ensues between superheroes and villains alike, a necessary plot hook to set up the reason why even the good guys are beating each other up in your video game.

But Injustice: Gods Among Us, now in it's fourth "year" of continuity, takes that initial premise and spins it out into the ultimate alternate universe where nothing ever goes well, strange alliances between heroes and villains form, and there's still time to have cute character moments where everybody finds out that Batman's first name doesn't really live up to his mystique.

Courtesy of Warner Bros. and DC Comics, Polygon has this five page preview of Injustice: Gods and Monsters: Year Four #5, written by Brian Buccellato, drawn by Bruno Redondo, and colored by Rex Lokus. Here's the official summary:

Barbara Gordon makes a critical decision and Harley Quinn contemplates what to do next with the captive Billy Batson.

The issue will be available digitally for one thin dollar starting tomorrow, and previous installments of the series are also available on Comixology.com or ReadDCEntertainment.com. Not sure what's up with this whole digital comics thing? Read this!
