Neverwinter MMO brings Rise of Tiamat expansion to Xbox One

Neverwinter, the Dungeons & Dragons MMO that came to Xbox One at the end of March, adds the Rise of Tiamat expansion for that console later this month, publisher Perfect World Entertainment announced.

(Correction: An earlier version of this post mistakenly said the expansion arrives tomorrow. It arrives in June.)

Rise of Tiamat was released for the PC edition of Neverwinter in November. Its story follows the Tyranny of Dragons campaign included with Neverwinter in its Xbox One launch. In it, players are tasked with preventing an evil cult from resurrecting the dragon goddess Tiamat, and save the city of Neverwinter in the process. The expansion also introduces the Well of Dragons, a draconic graveyard that will supply numerous encounters for the players to battle through.

The game is set in Wizards of the Coast's D&D franchise, and is developed by Cryptic Studios, which was behind Star Trek Online and the now-closed City of Heroes MMOs. It's Cryptic's first MMO to launch on both PC and a console.

Perfect World says Rise of Tiamat is one of five expansions coming to the Xbox One edition. The expansions and Neverwinter itself are free, but an Xbox Live Gold membership is required to play it on Xbox One.
