Paint the world as a 'gooey snake' when Soft Body launches for PS4, PS Vita this year

Soft Body, a twin-stick shooter and action-puzzle hybrid, will launch for PlayStation Vita and PS4 later this year, developer Zeke Virant announced via the PlayStation Blog.

Virant calls Soft Body a project with a "surreal sense of control and style," that was inspired by arcade games and simple twin-stick shooters. Players control two "gooey" snakes at the same time.

"Together, you use the snakes to paint the world, which continually changes around you, while dodging bullets and popping enemies," Virant wrote. "Both soothing and tense, Soft Body combines the challenge and twitchy fun of quick-restart action games with a smooth, meditative aesthetic."

The game will include two options for single-player: Soft Mode or Hard Mode. Soft Mode has a smoother difficulty curve, the dev said, that allows players to learn the mechanics at a gradual pace. Hard Mode will push players with "unique, brain-splitting mechanics."

"I wanted to make something that could push people to master the challenge of controlling two things at the same time — something stoically difficult, unforgiving, but fair and rewarding," Virant wrote. "Hard Mode gives you control of both bodies at the same time, all the time. If either body is popped by an enemy or a projectile, it's game over, and you restart from the beginning of the level."
