The next Star Trek movie has an official title that's way better than the last one

Susana Polo is an entertainment editor at Polygon, specializing in pop culture and genre fare, with a primary expertise in comic books. Previously, she founded The Mary Sue.

Director Justin Lin has tweeted it, and so it must be true: The name of the newest installment of the rebooted Star Trek franchise is Star Trek Beyond. Batmans need not apply.

The name has been bouncing around the internet for a week or so, as mentioned by Chris Doohan, son of James Doohan, who portrayed Star Trek: The Original Series' Commander Montgomery Scott. But Lin's tweet complete with a shot of some new costume details from the film, gives it that necessary air of legitimacy.

There's not a lot we know about Star Trek Beyond, but that's not particularly unusual for a project that's only just started filming. Simon Pegg, co-writer on the movie, has indicated that it'll be a return to form for the quintessentially optimistic science fiction franchise. And though we're not sure whether Idris Elba will be playing a Klingon or not, we do know that he's been tapped to serve as Star Trek Beyond's villain. The newest Star Trek installment will hit theaters on July 8, 2016.
