As of this writing, The Bard's Tale 4 has received $932,303 in pledges of its $1.25 million goal with 36 days remaining in the Kickstarter campaign. If It hits its funding goal, InXile will "put in at least $1.25 million of its own money to double the initial budget," according to the Kicksarter page. The developer promises a single-player campaign with fights, puzzles and riddles in a game "built for and with the help of our fans."
The Bard's Tale (originally called Tales of the Unknown: Volume I) was released in 1985. Two sequels followed, the last of which was released in 1988. InXile's 2004 reimagining launched on PlayStation, Windows and Xbox but is not considered part of the original series. InXile CEO Brian Fargo announced The Bard's Tale 4 at PAX South early this year.
InXile is no stranger to Kickstarter. In the last few years, the studio successfully funded Torment: Tides of Numenera and Wasteland 2 on the crowdfunding platform, pulling in 465 and 325 percent of their funding goals, respectively.
