Report: Destiny's The Taken King expansion hits Sept. 15, adds new raid, new subclasses

Destiny's next add-on, The Taken King, will be released on Sept. 15 and add a new subclass for each of the game's current classes, according to a report from Kotaku. The $40 expansion will reportedly also introduce a new raid — something developer Bungie didn't have ready for the recently released House of Wolves add-on.

Kotaku cites marketing materials for Destiny: The Taken King that outline its price and contents. The raid is described as a battle against Oryx, father of Crota, who players fought in The Dark Below's raid, Crota's End.

Earlier today, details on The Taken King were also posted to Reddit, but those details were removed by moderators of the Destiny subreddit. (A cached version is here.) According to that post, The Taken King will add a void elemental super attack for the Hunter, a solar attack for the Titan and an arc attack for the Warlock.

Publisher Activision said during an investor call in February that Destiny would get a "major content release" this fall. Bungie applied for a trademark for The Taken King in May, and marketing materials from Red Bull published last week offered further evidence of the expansion's name.

More details on Destiny: The Taken King are expected to be officially revealed at E3 2015 next week.
