All Halo 5: Guardians maps free, Xbox Live Gold not needed for co-op

Owen S. Good is a longtime veteran of video games writing, well known for his coverage of sports and racing games.

More details about Halo 5: Guardians are available in the print edition of Game Informer, notably that the game will launch with more than 20 multiplayer maps, all of them for free, and that an Xbox Live Gold subscription is not necessary for the online co-operative play accompanying the game's campaign mode.

Another 15 DLC maps will be available by June 2016, the story says, along with dozens of other details concerning the story and the characters of Halo 5. The fireteam commands also are given a brief explanation.

Further, Microsoft will speak more about a "completely new, epic multiplayer experience" for the game at E3, one that involves "all aspects of the Halo sandbox for the first time ever."

There's more in the cover story. The digital version of the magazine is available now. Halo 5: Guardians will be released Oct. 27 exclusively on Xbox One.
