PS4 gets the Black Ops 3 beta all to itself for five days

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 multiplayer beta will run for five days exclusively on PlayStation 4 once it begins Aug. 19, according to marketing material given out at the game's San Diego Comic-Con event.

Included in a swag bag given to those who attended the "Escape Room Challenge" for Black Ops 3 at the con was a card saying the beta was a PlayStation 4 exclusive from Aug. 19 to Aug. 23. The Call of Duty fan site Charlie Intel first reported this news.

It's not clear when, after Aug. 23, beta access will begin either for Windows PC or Xbox One. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will launch on those platforms, plus PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, on Nov. 6.

The beta is open but access to it is guaranteed with a pre-order of the game. Developing studio Treyarch announced this week that the PlayStation 4 exclusive beta would begin Aug. 19.

After eight years in which Microsoft's Xbox platforms were given a timed exclusive priority on Call of Duty downloadable content, the series has now made PlayStation 4 its preferred home. PlayStation CEO Andrew House announced at E3 2015 that the console is "the new home of Call of Duty."
