Shenmue 3's Kickstarter has a little less than three days to go, and the developers yesterday released this short teaser, which if nothing else shows that the game is indeed under development.
The description, per the project's Kickstarter page:
Ryo and Shenhua arrive at the Lake of the Lantern Bugs after their long journey. Entranced, they watch the gentle flight of the lantern bugs upon the mirage-like oasis.
Shenmue 3's funding drive was announced about a month ago during Sony's E3 news conference, and it hit its initial goal of $2 million just eight hours later. However, creator Yu Suzuki said later that at $5 million "one of the things I really want to do with Shenmue 3 will become a reality." And $10 million was necessary to "truly have the features of an open world."
Shenmue 2, which launched in 2001 on Dreamcast and 2002 on Xbox, reportedly cost $47 million to make. Shenmue 3 will be made with capital from sources other than the Kickstarter, but Suzuki says nothing raised by crowdfunding will go to Sony, which has pledged to support the game, which will be made for PlayStation 4 and Windows PC and launch by the end of 2017.
