StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void pre-orders are live, grant access to prologue and beta

The third chapter in the StarCraft 2 trilogy, the Protoss-focused Legacy of the Void, is available for pre-order through Blizzard's Battle.net, the developer announced today. While Legacy of the Void doesn't have a firm release date — Blizzard is estimating a winter release — pre-ordering the game grants immediate access to a playable prologue.

The three-chapter prologue, "Whispers of Oblivion," focuses on the Dark Templar Zeratul and serves as a narrative bridge to the previous chapter, Heart of the Swarm. Pre-orders for the game also grant access to Legacy of the Void's multiplayer beta.

StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void is priced at $39.99. Blizzard is also selling a digital deluxe edition of the expansion for $59.99, which includes various skins for StarCraft 2 and digital goods for the company's other games, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, Diablo 3, World of Warcraft and Heroes of the Storm.

Latecomers can also purchase the StarCraft 2 complete collection, which includes Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void. That collection costs $59.99, with a deluxe edition available for $99.99.

Legacy of the Void will include a new single-player campaign featuring the Protoss; a new multiplayer option called Archon Mode, in which two players control a single base; and Allied Commanders, an objective-based cooperative mode.

StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void is bound for Mac and Windows PC.
