Devil's Third, the debut game from Tomonobu Itagaki's Valhalla Game Studios, is coming to Wii U in the Americas during the fourth quarter of this year, Nintendo of America confirmed today. The action game will be released both at retail and digitally through Nintendo's eShop.
The North American release of Devil's Third was called into question after the game was a no-show at E3 2015 and after the title appeared to have been delisted from the eShop. Devil's Third was confirmed for release this August in Europe and Japan, but the game did not have a release window in North America until today.
Devil's Third is described by Nintendo as an "over-the-top, third-person action shooter that combines modern military weaponry with ninja-style swordplay and melee combat." It's the first project from Itagaki since the game developer left Team Ninja and Tecmo Koei in 2008.
Nintendo said in a press release that Nintendo will publish the Wii U version of the game, but that Valhalla will release a stand-alone version of Devil's Third for PC. While the Wii U version will feature both a single-player story mode and a multiplayer mode, the "free-to-start" PC version "will offer a multiplayer experience tailored for the platform."
Devil's Third was announced as a Wii U exclusive at last year's E3. That announcement came almost two years after rights to Devil's Third returned to Itagaki and Valhalla from the game's previous publisher, THQ.
