Destiny's upcoming expansion The Taken King features "the largest armory any Guardian has ever seen, and that includes the original launch of the game last year," Bungie said in a post on the game's official website today. To prepare players for the impending deluge of guns, the developer is giving fans an early look at some of the hand cannons, rocket launchers and rifles that will be added to the game this September.
Bungie does a little more showing than it does telling in today's update, which focuses on weapons developed by three of Destiny's in-game manufacturers: Hakke, Omolon and Suros. There are hints, however, that the developer plans on mixing things up when it comes to the game's armaments.
"There will be more choices than ever to arm yourself in the Tower," Bungie community manager David "DeeJ" Dague says. "Factions will have their own guns. Classes will have their own guns. More Quests will lead you directly to specific guns. Even the Gunsmith will have a new way to include you in his enterprise. We'll inspect all of that as well before you earn the means to equip yourselves to meet a rising threat."
Destiny lead artist Raj Nattam and sandbox designer Jon Weisnewski provide some design insight and analysis into the new guns for players hungry for more details. For a peek at those new weapons in-game, check out the gallery below.
Last week, Bungie outlined changes coming to weapon classes and some exotic weapons with Destiny's 2.0 update.
Destiny: The Taken King will be available on Sept. 15 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
