Galak-Z: The Dimensional is only a couple of weeks away from release as part of Sony's PlayStation 4 summer downloadable game promotion. But that doesn't mean you know everything there is to know about this space shooter yet.
Galak-Z developer 17-Bit visited Polygon this week and revealed a giant mechanic it has kept under wraps in the lead-up to the game. See, as it turns out, this isn't just a game about flying around space in a ship ... because your ship can also transform into a mech wielding a giant laser sword.
Mech transformation will unlock once you reach the second "season" (Galak-Z's term for a set of levels). Once unlocked you can switch back and forth between mech and ship at any point during a level, complete with awesome Transformers-esque transformation sound. While the ship focuses on long-range combat with lasers and missile barrages, the mech will force players to get up close to enemies to swipe with their sword. Mechs will also have a claw that can grab enemies or space debris and toss them around for easy damage.
Watch the video above to see us checking out the mech feature in some of Galak-Z's season 2 levels. And if you want to see even more, the video below shows just how intense later seasons get in the game.
Galak-Z: The Dimensional launches on PlayStation 4 on Aug. 4. A Windows PC version of the game is also in the works.
