EA Sports' golf game will add two free real-life courses

Two additional real-world golf courses are coming free to Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, EA Sports announced today.

TPC Scottsdale, which had been given to those who pre-ordered the game, will become available for free to all users on Aug. 11.

It will be followed in September by East Lake Golf Club of Atlanta, which stages the finale of the FedEx Cup Tour Championship, the season-long competition that determines the best tour professional.

TPC Scottsdale's famous 16th hole is entirely surrounded by grandstands and its Phoenix Open is a familiar stop on the tour. East Lake was the home course of the great Bobby Jones, the only winner of golf's "Grand Slam" (four major tournament wins in a single year; two of Jones' victories in 1930 aren't considered majors today).

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour launched July 14 and was widely criticized for the lack of courses compared to its predecessors published by EA Sports. The game features 12 courses, four of which are fictitious.

When the game's thin course roster became known, EA Sports promised consistent and free post-release downloadable content supporting Rory McIlroy PGA Tour. For more on the game, see Polygon's review.
