Batman v Superman's rivalry explained, plus a new character from a cartoon

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's recent Comic-Con trailer is full of homages, winks and nods to its stars' historic poses — and the subtle appearance of a character who was invented for a cartoon.

Press play above to watch the latest episode of DC All Access, which is all about giving the trailer context, pulling from the 75-plus history of DC Comics heroes and villains.

About about the 2:20 mark, the video reveals that Tao Okamoto, who makes a brief appearance in the trailer escorting General Zod's body, will play Mercy Graves, Lex Luthor's right-hand woman. That character debuted in 1996 in Superman: The Animated Series and later leapt over to comics in a single bound. Okamoto, who was born in Japan, also had roles in The Wolverine and can currently be seen in Hannibal.
