PlayStation Plus subscribers will soon get to vote on which PS4 titles go free

PlayStation Plus members will soon have some degree of influence on which PlayStation 4 games will be given away for free as part of their subscription to the service, thanks to Sony's new Vote to Play initiative.

Vote to Play will let PS Plus subscribers vote on "several" PS4 games that will be considered for the following month's list of available titles.

"The game with the most votes will automatically be included in our future free game lineup for PlayStation Plus," Sony Computer Entertainment America vice president of platform marketing John Koller wrote on the PlayStation Blog. "If your pick didn't make the lineup, don't worry. In the first promotion, PlayStation Plus members can get the runner ups at a discount. We love to listen to our fans — and we're super excited to launch this promotion."

News of the Vote to Play promotion leaked earlier this week, when a video of the feature was posted to the PS4's "What's New" section and spotted by NeoGAF member "El_Cinefilo."

Screenshots of that video showed three titles up for voting for PlayStation Plus: Armello, Grow Home and Zombie Vikings. It's not clear if those titles were being used simply as examples to illustrate how voting will be handled as part of Vote to Play, or if they're part of September's PS Plus lineup.

Sony promises more details on the promotion before it goes live for PlayStation Plus members.
