It's been a couple months since the completion of Hearthstone's second adventure set (and third major content add-on since launch), Blackrock Mountain. But it looks like players won't be waiting too much longer for whatever is next in Blizzard's digital card game.
Late yesterday, Polygon received the following scroll in the mail, packed into a special container that played a trumpet fanfare when we opened it:

The full text of the scroll reads:
Well met, hero!
Champions are gathering from around the world to witness the next exciting thing Hearthstone has in store. News travels far and wide in search of brave new faces ready to answer the call to arms — are you one of them?
Muster for battle and mark July 22 on your calendar. The next bit of news won't come by carrier pigeon — thankfully, we have much better ways of communication now.
Victory awaits!
The scroll appears to have been sent to other publications as well, including PC Gamer. Consensus among the Hearthstone community seems to be that the next Hearthstone add-on will be themed around the Argent Tournament, an event from World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King's patch 3.1 way back in 2009.
Thus far Hearthstone has had three major pieces of new content. The Curse of Naxxramas and Blackrock Mountain add-ons provided single-player challenges and around 30 new cards each. Last year's Goblins vs. Gnomes was the first "full" expansion for the game, featuring just over 120 new cards that greatly expanded the number of options available to players.
It's unclear whether this next addition to Hearthstone will be another smaller, single-player-focused add-on or a full expansion, but the last time that Blizzard sent out a physical mailing for the game, it was before Goblins vs. Gnomes was revealed. The theme of the Argent Tournament also suggests that perhaps it could finally include the proper tournament mode that many fans have been asking for since Hearthstone launched. We'll have to wait until July 22 to find out for sure.
Hearthstone's most recent update included a surprising new game mode called Tavern Brawl. You can watch us playing last week's Tavern Brawl in the video below or check out our full Hearthstone video playlist on YouTube.
