Spider-Man's new Aunt May to be played by Marisa Tomei

Oscar Award-winning actress Marisa Tomei has been offered the role of Aunt May in the new Spider-Man franchise, reports Variety.

According to Variety's sources, negotiations have been going on long enough that Tomei received an offer from Marvel Entertainment sometime last week. She would join newly chosen Spider-Man actor Tom Holland in the new franchise.

Holland is set to make his debut as Peter Parker in Marvel Entertainment's Captain America: Civil War in 2016, prior to starring in Sony's new Spider-Man series. Tomei's Aunt May will likely debut in the first of those as-yet-unnamed Spider-Man films.

Tomei's had a long career in Hollywood and television, with two Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress and one win, for her breakout role in My Cousin Vinny. From that film alone, we can rest assured in one thing: She'll know how to make Aunt May sound like she's from New York.
