Call of Duty: Black Ops 3's multiplayer beta will go live Aug. 19 on PlayStation 4, developer Treyarch announced yesterday.
The beta will give people a look at Black Ops 3's competitive multiplayer component two and a half months before the game launches. Black Ops 3 is in development on PlayStation 3, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One as well as PS4, and the beta will eventually be available on PC and Xbox One. But it will begin exclusively on PS4 due to Sony's new contract with Call of Duty publisher Activision, as PlayStation CEO Andrew House announced during E3.
"PlayStation is the new home of Call of Duty," said House.
Interested parties can pre-order Black Ops 3 on PC, PS4 or Xbox One to receive beta access. Treyarch has not yet specified how long the beta will run, or when it will arrive on PC and Xbox One. The studio will reveal details about another piece of Black Ops 3's multiplayer component, the popular Zombies mode, today during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 launches Nov. 6. For more on how Treyarch is changing things up in multiplayer this time around, check out our initial preview from April and our hands-on impressions from E3.
