NBA 2K16 video offers snippets of gameplay in Stephen Curry's story

The latest promotional video for NBA 2K16 doesn't contain much footage of the game itself, focusing instead on the rise of Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry, who is one of the game's three cover athletes. But there are a few noteworthy tidbits within.

Narrated by Spike Lee, the director of NBA 2K16's career mode, the video takes us through Curry's life, and how he has defined his career by defying doubters every step of the way. This past spring, Curry helped the Warriors to their first NBA title in 40 years.

The "Beyond the Shadows" video, set to inspiring music, includes only seven seconds of NBA 2K16 footage. Check them out below, courtesy of Operation Sports:

More notably, the video begins with the usual ESRB rating box, which features — for the first time in the history of the NBA 2K franchise — an E10+ rating, rather than an E rating. The descriptors issued along with the rating mention "mild language," "alcohol reference," "violent references" and "mild suggestive themes." These elements could come from NBA 2K16's soundtrack, but it's more likely that they exist within the story in the Spike Lee-directed MyCareer mode.

NBA 2K16 is set for release Sept. 29 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. It will be available four days early to pre-order customers. For more, check out the trailer below for the game's new 2K Pro-Am mode.
