Meet Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight in the movie's first trailer

Samit Sarkar (he/him) is Polygon’s deputy managing editor. He has more than 15 years of experience covering video games, movies, television, and technology.

The Hateful Eight's first trailer, released today by distributor The Weinstein Company, introduces the titular strangers of Quentin Tarantino's latest Western — along with a whole lot of guns.

We see each of the eight strangers; seven of them are looking to bring in the eighth, wanted murderer Daisy Domergue — dead or alive. You can see the full crew below. The film takes place in the second half of the 19th century as the eight individuals come together when they're trapped by a blizzard at Minnie's Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover in Wyoming.

The Hateful Eight is the eighth film directed by Quentin Tarantino, and his second consecutive Western, following 2012's Django Unchained. Tarantino shot The Hateful Eight on 70 mm film, and as you can see in the trailer, that leads to an extremely wide aspect ratio of 2.76:1 in the Ultra Panavision 70 format. The movie will premiere on Christmas Day, but only as a limited engagement in 70 mm; the wide release will come two weeks later on Jan. 8, 2016.

They don't call him "The Hangman" for nothin'.

Underestimate Miss Domergue at your own peril.

Something tells us this old coot will take exception to Major Warren's presence at Minnie's.

Chris Mannix, "The Sheriff" (Walton Goggins)

The Hateful Eight - Mannix screencap 1920

He doesn't look like any sheriff we've ever seen.
