Destiny developer Bungie will reveal more about the game's upcoming expansion, The Taken King, in a series of livestreams over the next three weeks, the studio announced yesterday.
Bungie did the same thing for Destiny's previous expansion, May's House of Wolves, revealing new elements like the Reef social space and the Trials of Osiris mode. Here's the schedule for The Taken King, so you can get the skinny on what looks to be Destiny's biggest expansion yet:
- Destiny Year Two: Aug. 19, 11 a.m. PT
The first livestream, featuring executive producer Mark Noseworthy and senior design lead Tyson Green, will focus on what's new in year two of Destiny. That includes the overhauled Tower, the way players' first-year highlights will translate to the second year of Destiny, power increases for Guardians, and higher Light and level caps. "Pro-Tip: Don't dismantle anything until the full developer briefing," Bungie advises. - Strike the Dreadnaught: Aug. 26, 11 a.m. PT
James Tsai, design lead, will walk players through the new gameplay elements of The Taken King. That includes details on the Dreadnaught, a Taken ship that is a new playable area; what it's like to fight Taken enemies; how boss battles are changing; and the three new Guardian subclasses. Bungie will also show off part of a Cabal strike featured in the expansion. - Court of Oryx: Sept. 2, 11 a.m. PT
The third livestream will lift the lid on the Dreadnaught. Designer Ben Wommack and "Scarab Lord" Luke Smith, who's also The Taken King's creative director, will take players through a Patrol mission on Oryx's massive spaceship. They'll also explain the ship's hidden treasures and a way to manually trigger public events.
All three livestreams will air on Bungie's Twitch channel, and we'll be bringing you coverage of all the new Taken King tidbits as they come in.
Destiny: The Taken King will be released Sept. 15 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. In the meantime, you may want to log in this weekend and pick up the one and only Gjallarhorn from Xur. For more on The Taken King, check out new details from Gamescom and the prologue trailer below.
