Star Wars Episode 9 to be directed by Jurassic World's Colin Trevorrow

Disney confirmed at its D23 Expo today that the ninth episode in the Star Wars saga will be directed by Colin Trevorrow, the man who helmed Jurassic World.

Alan Horn, chairman of Walt Disney Studios, confirmed rumors that Trevorrow was directing Star Wars: Episode 9, taking over directing duties after J.J. Abrams directs Episode 7, aka The Force Awakens, and Rian Johnson, who's on board to direct Episode 8.

Episode 9 is due for release sometime in 2019.

Jurassic World recently became the third-highest grossing movie of all time. A Jurassic World sequel, co-written by Trevorrow, is coming in 2018.
