Son does a solid for his Destiny-loving dad, buys him three Gjallarhorns

Here's a story of families brought together across the generations by video gaming — with the roles somewhat reversed.

Redditor noeljaboy says his father is 68 years old and an avid Destiny player. He's also out of town for work this weekend.

This is a very bad weekend for a Destiny player, of any age, to be out of town for work. The fabled, very rare rocket launcher Gjallarhorn is on sale from the in-game merchant Xur for a limited time only.

So Noel received the following text message.

Harry Chapin is updating the lyrics to "Cat's in the Cradle" as we speak.

"My old man is clearly very excited about it and I thought I'd share his excitement," Noel said in later comments. "He comes home from work and goes straight to the Xbox and plays his game until exactly midnight, when he goes to bed."

In Destiny, Gjallarhorn is an exotic rocket launcher named for the horn the Norse god Heimdall will blow to signal closin' time for the world. It is highly powerful against raid bosses. It is very coveted. It explodes a lot of ass.

This weekend marks just the second time it's been for sale from Xur, who makes his rounds every weekend. Otherwise, the only way to get Gjallarhorn is through Destiny's inscrutable random loot drops.

Noel says he ended up buying three for his pops, misreading how much Gjallarhorn cost (or how many Strange Coins he had on hand.)
